Are you a creative thinker, a researcher, a builder? Our FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Teams have a place for you to test, explore, expand your mind, and learn about different sciences each year!
FIRST LEGO League (FLL) introduces girls to STEM using LEGO MINDSTORMS®, programmable robotics that test girls' technical and leadership skills. Each year, FLL teams embark on a challenge based on current, real-world issues. Guided by a coach and assisted by mentors, girls build their engineering know-how by creating an autonomous robot. With your team, you will:
FTC allows girls to compete head to head using sports model robots. Teams are responsible for designing, building, and programming their robots to compete in alliances against other teams. Teams including coaches, mentors and volunteers help to develop strategy and build robots based on sound engineering principles. Awards are given for the competition as well as for community outreach, design and other real-world accomplishments. Girls will:
Teams consist of 3-10 girls ages 9-14, with at least one adult coach. Each team will meet once a week (and more often before tournaments). Girls CAN take part in FIRST Robotics individually- you don’t need a troop for FIRST Robotics. If you are interested in being a team coach, please contact Melissa Mason. You don't need any previous experience in FIRST or a STEM background- your team does the work!
